Race #1 - Yampa River Sprint (Time Trial)

Race Details

  • When: Wednesday, April 15, 2026
  • Where: 5th Street Bridge to D-Hole
  • Schedule: 
    • Racer Check-In/Registration: 4:00 PM - 5:45 PM at Workman Park/5th Street
    • Shuttle Service: 5:15 PM 
      • Participants can park at the Stockbridge Transit Center and ride the shuttle to the start at Workman Park/5th Street. 
      • Participants must transport their own boats to the start at Workman Park/5th Street.  
    • Racer Safety Briefing: 5:45 PM - 6:00 PM
    • Racing Starts: 6:00 PM

Race Format

  • There will be two course sections for this race with start times assigned for each racer/section. Races will have the opportunity to race and post times for both sections. 
    • Section 1: Racers will start two at a time (by division) beginning at the 5th Street Bridge and ending at the 9th Street Bridge. 
    • Section 2: Racers will start three at a time (by division) beginning at the 9th Street Bridge and ending at the D-Hole adjacent West Lincoln Park. 
  • Racing will go in order of each division starting with Whitewater Kayak, followed by SUP and finally Raft.

Post Race Social 

Stick around for the post race social at West Lincoln Park. Hang out will fellow racers, enjoy free food & beverages, and be entered for a chance to win fun sponsor giveaways! 

Race #2 - Yampa River Challenge (Obstacle Course)

Race Details

  • Where: 5th Street Bridge to D-Hole
  • Schedule: 
    • Racer Check-In/Registration: 4:00 PM - 5:45 PM at Workman Park/5th Street
    • Shuttle Service: 5:15 PM 
      • Participants can park at the Stockbridge Transit Center and ride the shuttle to the start at Workman Park/5th Street. 
      • Participants must transport their own boats to the start at Workman Park/5th Street.  
    • Racer Safety Briefing: 5:45 PM - 6:00 PM
    • Racing Starts: 6:00 PM

Race Format

  • Racers will race from the 5th Street Bridge, ending at the D-Hole adjacent West Lincoln Park. 
  • This challenging river course will include a series of ferries, required moves, and fun obstacles along the way. 
  • Racers will compete in heats of three (3) for the Whitewater Kayak and SUP Divisions, and heats of one (1) for the Raft Division (heats will be seeded based on the times from the previous time trial race). 
  • Racing will go in order of each division starting with Whitewater Kayak, followed by SUP and finally Raft.

Post Race Social 

Stick around for the post race social at West Lincoln Park. Hang out will fellow racers, enjoy free food & beverages, and be entered for a change to win fun sponsor giveaways! 

Safety Requirements & Protocols

Racer Requirements

  • Participants are required to attend mandatory safety briefings prior to the start of each race. 
  • Participants are required to be at a Class III/Intermediate skill level. You are responsible for knowing your capabilities/limits and paddling within them. 
  • Participants are required to be fully equipped with the following:
    • Helmet - Required for all crafts
    • PFD (Life Jacket) - Type III - V Coast Guard Approved
    • Cold Water Gear - Dry Suit, Wet Suit, or Splash Gear
    • Spray Skirt - Required for all Whitewater Kayakers
    • Quick-Release Leash - Required for Stand Up Paddleboarders (SUPs)
    • Proper Footwear - No Bare Feet, Flip Flops, or Unsecured Sandals

Weather Delays/Cancellations

  • Event Staff  will monitor weather and river flows throughout the event. In the case of lightning, Event Staff will call a 30-minute hold for all activities. 
  • Events may be adapted based on weather conditions. If water levels exceed 2,600 cfs, some bridges may become impassible, resulting in course changes or possible race cancelations. 
  • If weather conditions are poor, and the event is delayed by more than one hour, the race will be canceled, with the possibility of rescheduling. 
  • Event staff has the authority to cancel the event due to any safety concerns or acts of god that would otherwise hinder the races or deem them unsafe.
