In July of 2021, the City of Steamboat Springs adopted Routt County Climate Action Plan, which identified an ambitious waste reduction target that the County and its partners can pursue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the development of a circular economy within the community. Target: Increase diversion of waste to landfill to 46 percent by 2030 and 85 percent by 2050. Check Progress Toward Goals
The recycling mandate for commercial waste customers, required compliance by July 31, 2024, with fines beginning in March 2025 and states that recycling capacity shall be equal to at least 50 percent of trash service capacity when container size, number and collection frequency are considered.
Recycling Drop-Off Options
Twin Enviro Apex operates two facilities for waste and recycling processing:
Apex SHIFT Center, located at 2701 Downhill Drive, accepts electronics and other hard-to-recycle items and recyclables Monday through Friday 9am to 1pm, closed weekends and holidays.
Steamboat Eco Center, located at 20650 County Rd 205, accepts recyclables and electronics Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm, closed weekends and holidays.
