[ARCHIVED] Median & Seasonal Light Maintenance Planned

South Median NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 9, 2026-Seasonal maintenance work is underway across Steamboat Springs this spring. Residents and visitors should expect temporary parking restrictions and lane shifts in active work zones downtown, along US40, and on Mt. Werner Road. Work will occur in stages from mid-April through early May.

Mt. Werner Medians & Scoria Cleanup: April 13–17, 7 am–7 pm daily (weather dependent)
Crews will clean medians along Mt. Werner Road and Circle and remove accumulated scoria as part of seasonal maintenance operations. No lane closures are planned; however, crews will be working close to traffic and drivers should use caution in the area. Weather conditions may extend the work schedule.

Downtown Seasonal Light Removal (Lincoln Avenue/US40):  April 20–21
The city will remove seasonal lighting along Lincoln Avenue/US40. The lighting is city-funded and managed in partnership with Main Street Steamboat. SAVATREE has been contracted to complete removal of lighting within the tree canopy along both sides of the corridor. Work will occur block by block using rolling parking restrictions. No travel lanes will be closed; however, on-street parking will be temporarily restricted in active work areas.

Parking Lane impacts include:

  • April 20: Eastbound Lincoln Ave/US40 between 12th Street and 3rd Street – parking restrictions from 6 am to 4 pm.
  • April 21: Westbound Lincoln Ave/US40 between 3rd Street and 12th Street – parking restrictions from 3rd Street to 12th Street as crews complete remaining work

US40 Medians & Scoria Cleanup: April 27–May 1, 7 am-7 pm daily (weather dependent)
Median cleanup along US40 will begin near Walton Creek Road and progress east toward 3rd Street in stages. Left lanes in both directions will be closed during active work, and traffic patterns will shift as crews move through the corridor. Work will be completed using hand tools and small equipment within the medians. Drivers should expect delays and use caution in work zones.

Steamboat Springs Transit will operate on its regular schedule throughout all projects. Work has been scheduled to coincide with spring break to help reduce overall traffic impacts.

These seasonal maintenance activities support required stormwater and air quality management programs, including the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit and Colorado’s PM10 Air Quality Maintenance Program, which help reduce dust, sediment, and pollutants entering local waterways and the air.
