[ARCHIVED] Short-Term Rental License Application Deadline Nears

STR NewsFlash 1

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 25, 2023-Don't be locked out! The grace period to operate a Short-Term Rental (STR) without a license within the City of Steamboat Springs is fast approaching – Sunday, April 30, 2023.

“The grace period is closing, and applicants can’t say they haven’t had enough time to obtain a license,” said Planning & Community Development Director Rebecca Bessey. “Every STR needs to obtain a license and the online process is easy and convenient – there’s even a step-by-step document to guide people through the entire process.”

Each Short-Term Rental is required to obtain a license, which is valid for one year and must be renewed annually. License types include STR, Hosted STR and Temporary STR. The deadline to obtain a license and continue advertising and operating is April 30, 2023, and the fee is $250.

Exemptions may be granted for properties that are located in STR Overlay Zone A (green zone), and that have a 24-hour staffed front desk, 24-hour phone system monitored by a person, and 24-hour staff capable of responding to complaints. The exemption application is available on the website.

In STR Overlay Zone C (red zone), only properties with legal nonconforming approval or a valid VHR permit are eligible for a STR License. In STR Overlay Zone B (yellow zone), the city is only accepting STR License applications for properties with pending or approved legal nonconforming registration or a valid VHR permit. Applications will not be accepted for a wait list at this time. Hosted STR and Temporary STR Licenses are available in all zones.

The step-by-step application guide, required forms, STR Overlay Zone Map, Licensing Ordinance and additional information on Short-Term Rentals can be found at steamboatsprings.net/STR
