STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-May 2, 2022-The city has published the preliminary March 2022 sales, use, and accommodation tax report. The March 2022 sales taxes are 33.96% higher compared to the March 2021 collections or an increase of $1,206,257.
Year-to-date sales tax collection is 35.63% more than year to date through the same period last year. For the past 5 years, March collections represent about 11% of annual collections.
When comparing this March to the same month last year the notable increases in collections by category are in lodging & amenities at 64.20%, and restaurants at 39.30%, and sporting goods 33.70% over last March. Increases in collections by area were seen across all geographical areas on which report data.
Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. March collections were up 64.83% compared to the same period last year.
Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. March net use tax collections total $198,923.
