STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-September 30, 2021-The City of Steamboat Springs has published the August 2021 Preliminary Sales, Use, Accommodation Tax Report (see the report). 

The August 2021 sales taxes for the City of Steamboat Springs are 16.66% higher compared to the August 2020 collections or an increase of $383,910. For the past 5 years, August collections represent about 8% of annual collections. Year to date sales tax collection is 24.02% more than year to date through August 2020. 

When comparing this August to the same month last year there were notable increases in collections by category in lodging & amenities, restaurants, and miscellaneous retail. Increases in collections by area were seen across all geographical areas. 

Accommodation Tax is primarily dedicated to local trail projects. A small amount each year is dedicated towards the marketing of these projects and capital improvements at Haymaker. August collections were up substantially compared to the same period last year. Year to date accommodations tax is up 32.72% compared to the same period last year. 

Building Use Tax is used to fund capital projects for the City of Steamboat Springs. This tax fluctuates depending on building permits issued, use tax reconciliations completed, and the size and number of developments in the City. August net use tax collections total $923,400. Year to date net use tax collections is up 166% through the same period last year.
