[ARCHIVED] Main Street Steamboat Hosts Downtown BID Info Session

BID NewsFlash

Main Street Steamboat will host a public information session on Tuesday, May 5, to help community members gain a clear understanding of the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) as the City of Steamboat Springs moves forward with efforts to repopulate the BID Board. The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at The Commons Food Hall on 7th Street in downtown Steamboat Springs. The session is free and open to the public.

Purpose of the Session
As part of the City’s statutory process, polling the BID Board is a required step in determining whether the Downtown BID should continue or be dissolved. This information session is designed to ensure that business owners, property owners, and interested residents have access to clear, neutral information before that process moves forward.

The session will be especially helpful for individuals who may be interested in serving on the BID Board, offering foundational knowledge about:

  • What a BID is and how it functions
  • The responsibilities of BID Board members
  • How BIDs support economic vitality in downtown districts
  • How the upcoming polling process fits into the BID’s future

Main Street Steamboat is neither for nor against the continuation of the BID. The organization is hosting this session solely as a public service, ensuring that the community has access to accurate information and an opportunity to ask questions in an open, accessible environment.

Guest Speaker: Matt Gordon, Colorado Main Street
The session will feature a short presentation by Matt Gordon, Main Street Specialist with Colorado Main Street. Gordon brings statewide expertise in economic development, historic preservation, and downtown revitalization. Matt Gordon operates at the intersection of historic preservation and modern economic vitality. He serves as a strategic partner to communities across Colorado, leveraging his expertise in economic development and his passion for emerging technologies to integrate digital innovation into traditional revitalization efforts. His work supports culturally vibrant, economically resilient downtown districts equipped for the future.

Following his presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session.

About the Downtown BID
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a public organization formed by property owners to provide enhanced services, improvements, and programs within a defined commercial area. BIDs can support maintenance, beautification, marketing, events, and economic development efforts that benefit the district.

This information session will help clarify how BIDs operate, how they are governed, and what role board members play in their success.
