[ARCHIVED] Utilities Standard Specifications Updated

Standard Specifications NewsFlash

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-March 12, 2026-The City of Steamboat Springs Utility Division released the updated Water & Wastewater Standard Specifications that will apply to all water and wastewater projects moving forward in the New Year.

“It’s important that our standards evolve alongside industry practices,” said Distribution & Collection Manager Michelle Carr. “The feedback we received throughout this process played a major role in shaping these updates, and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed.”

The 2025 Standards Specification for Water & Wastewater go into effect March 15, 2026, for all water and wastewater projects located within the City of Steamboat Springs utility service area. These standards will not apply to projects within the Mt. Werner Water & Sanitation District service area.

The specifications establish the minimum standards for the design, modification, abandonment, and construction of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities with the City of Steamboat Springs utility service area.

As the city transitions from previous standards to the updated 2025 updated standards, a few projects will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the appropriate set standards that will apply. In general, the 2025 standards document will NOT apply to projects with an active building or utility permit issued before January 1, 2026; or a permit application submitted in CityView before January 1, 2026.

“As you plan any water or sewer‑related work within the city’s utility district, we encourage you to review the new specifications early in your process,” Carr added. “Our team is always available to answer questions and help ensure projects move forward without surprises.”

The city worked internally to update the 2025 Water & Wastewater Standard Specifications and a copy of the updated document can be requested via email
