[ARCHIVED] Applications Open for Board and Commission Roles

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-January 13, 2026-The City of Steamboat Springs is encouraging interested community members to apply for open positions on several city boards and commissions. These volunteer bodies play a vital role in municipal decision‑making, long‑range planning, and the stewardship of Steamboat Springs’ character and heritage.

Serving on a board or commission provides residents with an opportunity to contribute directly to the city’s governance, support thoughtful policy development, and help guide the direction of key projects and initiatives across land use, historic preservation and community planning. The city is currently seeking applicants for the following openings:

Board of Adjustment

  • Open Seats: Three regular, three‑year terms (4/1/2026-3/31/2029); and one alternate
  • Role: The BOA reviews requests for adjustments to development standards related to single‑family homes, duplexes, signage, and floodplains. The board ensures that variance requests are evaluated fairly and in accordance with city regulations.
  • Why it matters: land use oversight

Historic Preservation Commission

  • Open Seats: Three regular, three‑year terms (4/1/2026-3/31/2029); and one alternate
  • Role: HPC reviews design applications, evaluates nominations to the Steamboat Springs Register of Historic Places, provides preservation recommendations to City Council, endorses National Register submissions, and reviews qualified restoration projects for state tax credits.
  • Why it matters: historic resource protection

Parks & Recreation Commission

  • Open Seats: Four regular, two‑year terms, (4/1/2026-3/31/2028)
  • Role: The Parks & Recreation Commission serves as an advisory board to City Council to promote an enhanced quality of life by offering a broad range of safe and accessible resources including parks, open space, trails, recreational services and facilities which invite all to Explore, Play, Learn and Preserve.
  • Why it matters: community health and quality of life

Planning Commission

  • Open Seats: two regular, three‑year terms (4/1/2026-3/31/2029) and one open seat 
  • Role: The Planning Commission advises on long‑range planning, land use regulations, and community development matters. The commission is instrumental in shaping policies that guide the city’s growth and future development.
  • Why it matters: land use oversight and community planning leadership

The deadline to apply for open seats is February 27, 2026, and interested parties can fill out an online application. Interviews will be conducted in March by a panel of three City Councilors. All serving members receive a Howelsen Hill Family Ski Pass. Planning Commission members also receive a Haymaker Golf Pass.
