Park Will Open Gates For The Season At 9AM On Friday, April 25

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-April 18, 2025-Experience early spring in the Botanic Park when the gates open for the 2025 season on a day that couldn’t be more fitting — Arbor Day! The gardens are waking up with fresh green shoots and the first signs of color and you can take it all in starting Friday, April 25 at 9am.

“We’re excited to show off all the early season blooms in the park,” commented Executive Director Jennifer MacNeil. “There is lots in store this season and we hope folks will join us for fun events, programs, and stroll through often to see the park as the seasons change from spring, to summer, to fall.”

As the snow continues to melt, the park’s horticulture team has been hard at work preparing the gardens after the long winter. The Yampa River Botanic Park will open their gates and welcome visitors for the season on Friday, April 25 at 9am.

Early flowers such as crocus, tulips, daffodils, glory of the snow, and other early spring alpine plants are already showing off their early season colors. The osprey pair which has been raising young since 2016 in the nest along the Yampa River returned on March 26 for the 10th consecutive year.

You can check out the park’s first family of flight through a new viewfinder! The viewfinder is at ADA height so that visitors in wheelchairs and children can easily enjoying watching the nest. This gift to the community was made possible by a generous contribution from the Pruett Family.

Passport Through the Botanic Park invites guests to journey through the gardens exploring the plant collections that are native to Colorado and similar environments worldwide while enjoying global cuisine, wine, and entertainment. Stations are set throughout the gardens that pair learning opportunities with global cuisine and wine. Guests are delighted by entertainment throughout the evening.

This year’s theme is Passport to the 7 Summits and will highlight plants in the Botanic Park’s collection that are native to high elevations on the seven continents. Climb with us to Denali, Mount Everest, Mount Elbrus, Mont Blanc, Mount Kilimanjaro, Vinson Massif, Mount Kosciuszko, and Aconcagua. The event will take place on July 19 with tickets going on sale July 9.

Once a sprawling horse pasture, the six-acre Yampa River Botanic Park is now home to more than 60 unique gardens, thousands of plant species, animals, and hosts special events of all shapes and sizes. An innovative experiment in private/public partnerships, the Botanic Park is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, from May through October.
