Seniors Hockey NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-January 24, 2024-The Howelsen Ice Arena is looking to make sure 16 seniors from two local teams don’t soon forget what it means to play before your hometown this weekend on senior night.

“Game night is always a big deal no matter where you play,” said Howelsen Ice Arena Supervisor Dmitry Chase. “When game night is also senior night, it’s extra special and we want to pack the rink each night so these players enjoy home ice and this special occasion.”

The Steamboat Springs High School Varsity & JV Hockey teams skate on the ice first on Friday evening, January 26, when they take on league rival Glenwood Springs. The evening slides into action when the JV crew defends home ice at 5:30pm. Following the earlier game, the varsity squad features a recognition showcase at 6:45pm with the puck dropping at 7:15pm at Howelsen Ice Arena.

Out of the roster, the varsity and junior varsity squads will be sending off 11 seniors that evening. The Varsity Sailors are 8-4 overall, and 3-0 in 4A Mountain League play.
