STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 4, 2023-Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue (SSFR) will be hosting a pinning ceremony next week to officially honor the new group of firefighters joining the department and recognize a recent promotion.
Five new firefighters Bryan Berry, Derek Diamond, Michael Hall, Angel Ramirez, and Dillon Sanders will be sworn in during a badge pinning ceremony on October 10. Also being honored during the event is the promotion of Nick Fernandez to Firefighter/Engineer.
The ceremony is the culmination of a six-month training academy for recruits and marks the transition from probationary to sworn firefighter. With this achievement not only comes the badge, but a new helmet representing the recruits’ status change.
In his new engineer role, Fernandez will be responsible for maintaining and driving apparatus that transport firefighters, carry equipment, and pump water at fire scenes. A specific department certification to operate firefighting equipment is required, which mandates specific training, experience, and testing on the apparatus.
The pinning ceremony is a long-standing public safety tradition which awards the badge on an individual either upon graduation or promotion. The celebratory event will take place on Tuesday morning, October 10, at 9am in Centennial Hall (124 10th Street).
