[ARCHIVED] Asphalt & Subgrade Repairs Set for 3rd Street Starting Aug 7

3rd Street Repair NewsFlash

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-August 3, 2023-A highly traveled section of 3rd Street between Lincoln Avenue/US40 and Oak Street will see asphalt and subgrade repairs by the city’s Street Department beginning Monday, August 7.

This one-block stretch which lies between the US Post Office and Wells Fargo Bank will undergo a multiple day effort to install new asphalt section as well as make subgrade repairs in several locations.

While the entire street will not be repaved, several portions of the road will undergo work to improve travel since this location experiences significant vehicle volume.

The repair work will occur mostly between 7am and 2pm with no parking allowed on 3rd Street during those hours. Repairs could take multiple days to complete, and motorists should expect lane shifts and delays.

Wintry weather, drainage and traffic volume all play a role in the deterioration of the roadway and subgrade in this location. The subgrade is the layer of material that lies beneath the pavement and provides a stable base for the asphalt to rest on. The type of soil, the presence of moisture, and climate conditions can all affect the strength and stability of the subgrade.

Motorist are asked slow down through the work zone, adhere to posted work zone speed limits, use alternative routes and to be patient as delays are encountered during this project.
