STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-June 30, 2023-Fueling America’s passion for gardens, the Conservancy’s Open Days program celebrates the country’s most exciting, creative, and innovative private gardens. This perennially favorite program will return to Colorado for the first time since 2018, beginning with the Saturday, July 8 Open Day in Steamboat Springs, presented in partnership with Yampa River Botanic Park.
“We’re excited to be a part of this unique event and bring Open Days to the Yampa Valley,” said Executive Director Jennifer MacNeil. “This event gives gardeners and garden lovers inspiration for their own home landscapes from the best of the best in the valley.”
The Open Days program is made up of a nationwide community of gardeners and garden enthusiasts teaching and inspiring each other and the public. From expert to novice, there is no better way to improve as a gardener than by experiencing a diverse range of gardens and gardening traditions firsthand. Next month, the Garden Conservancy has partnered with Yampa River Botanic Park to curate visits to four of the area’s finest private gardens.
Gardens included on the July 8 Routt County tour are Rancho Relaxo, featuring stone terraces, a stream, unbeatable views, private sitting areas, and unique garden structures; KK Garden, an evolving garden built by the gardener that echoes the gardens of her English childhood; Karen’s Growing Ideas, a small urban plot that invites pollinators of all types to dine and reside (including the occasional moose!); and High Elevation Garden, featuring rock gardens, troughs, Rocky Mountain natives, and almost anything else that can be grown at 8,150 feet! Each garden features a radically different approach to the world of gardening and promises a full season of adventure during the height of the gardening season.
Registration is $10 per person, per garden, or $5 for members of The Garden Conservancy. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. All registrations must be processed online through www.gardenconservancy.org/open-days.
Since 1995, Open Days has welcomed more than 1.4 million visitors into thousands of inspired private landscapes—from urban rooftops to organic farms, historic estates, to innovative suburban lots—in 41 states. Open Days have become The Garden Conservancy’s best-known and most beloved program, and it is made possible by the hard work and generous support of hundreds of volunteers, garden hosts, and visitors.
