[ARCHIVED] Water Main Break

Water Drop NewsFlash

The City of Steamboat Springs water department is dealing with a major water main break and working to located the impacted area in the system. With the abundance of snow across the community, it may take additional time to locate the break, determine the issue and make repairs.  Water crews are aware of the outage and actively working to determine the location of the break.

UPDATE 8:05PM: Water service should slowly be returning but it will be cloudy and discolored for a while.  Folks should run cold water from the bathtub for approximately 10 minutes. If it doesn’t clear up after that, they should turn the water off, wait an hour, then try again. people may have to do this 3 to 4 times before the water clears up. The discoloration is due to iron sediments in the pipes and while it is aesthetically unpleasing, it is safe to drink unless you have any iron sensitivity issues.
