With the New Year, the recently implemented statewide fingerprinting process brings local revisions to the SSPD's ability to provide fingerprinting services as of January 14, 2019.
During the initial transition, the SSPD was able to petition to continue providing fingerprinting on a temporary basis; but that exemption has ended. The department has been selected as an approved vendor location under the new CABS program; however, final approval is still pending finalization of service jurisdiction between the vendor and state.
Until approval is finalized, SSPD is no longer able to provide fingerprinting services to the public at this time.
This does not include sex offender registration fingerprints. These are taken 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
New Statewide System
This past fall, Colorado launched the Colorado Applicant Background Services (CABS) program which significantly changed the process for obtaining civil fingerprints for individuals seeking background checks.
“While this break in service is only temporary, we apologize for the inconvenience and are hopeful that the vendor setup in Steamboat Springs can be finalized within the next month,” said Commander Jerry Stabile. “Our goal has always been to provide an option for local fingerprinting services to our community and we’ll let citizens know immediately when that approval arrives from the state.”
With the Colorado program, individuals are required to use an approved fingerprinting vendor site to submit their electronic prints to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for processing. Currently, IdentoGo is up and running in Craig, CO, currently the closest location for Steamboat citizens.
